Charlotte Taylor

London-based artist, designer, and founder of Maison De Sable, Charlotte Taylor, is renowned for her virtual interiors and architectural environments. BAINA has long admired her visualisations of serene interiors and—many of which depict tranquil bathing spaces that encourage slow, immersive rituals. Charlotte’s book, Design Dreams, showcases imaginative 3D environments—both unearthly and lifelike—made possible by her freedom from traditional architectural constraints.
In this intimate passage, Charlotte shares how bathing is a daily ritual and cherished moment of calm—a way to disconnect, marking the transition from day to night, creating a sense of familiarity wherever she is, especially while travelling.

"Bathing for me is a break and disconnection from the day, often a signifier of the day merging into night. It’s my safe space and sense of calm. I travel regularly and bathing is my transient safe space across different places.
I am a daily bather and often bathe in the early evening as the light is dropping. Weekends I opt for morning baths with the Saturday paper in tow."

"My bathing routine is pretty consistent, it's always been an important part of my routine. My bathing habits shift depending on the season but I often will listen to a classical album— The Four Seasons Recompossion by Max Richter is a frequent playlist that accompanies my baths. There is often a sudoku to hand and a woody scented candle if I’m home, and have no or very low light. My cats almost always join on the bath mat. Lots of bubble bath is a must too and piping hot.
I use bathing as a way to break from the working day. Working at my home studio a lot its hard to differentiate work and rest time, bathing is a good transition for winding down."

"One of my most notable bathing memories was at the Shishi-Iwa House in Japan. Having a morning bath with the window bordering the bath wide open whilst it snowed. A feeling of complete safety and comfort yet blurring the boundaries of inside and outside. It was a sense of calm I often try to mentally go back to."
