Claudia Smith
Australian-based photographer Claudia Smith grew up surrounded by the verdant landscapes of the eastern coastline, instilling in her a deep respect for the land and its waters. Through her self-taught approach, Claudia’s photography reflects a distinctive style that blends intimacy with stillness. Guided by the rhythm of her analogue process, her work radiates quiet empathy and sensitivity, capturing the natural cycles of nature, and feminine strength.
In this personal reflection, Claudia shares how bathing is a restorative ritual that reconnects mind and body. From cleansing ocean dips to soothing baths, her approach celebrates simplicity to create moments of clarity, relaxation, and connection.
"I’ve always been a water baby. Any body of water has always allowed me to reconnect with myself. Each time providing something i’m in need of, an energy reset, a cleanse, a moment to pause and find clarity."
"I'm both a morning and night shower person. The routine of a quick morning shower, usually on the colder side to awaken, cleanse, feel fresh and energised for the day. Then before bed I love to take a warm shower to slow down, wash the day off and prepare for a quiet evening. I'm constantly drawn to the ocean for a dip multiple times a week, another form of bathing that feels essential.
A ritual of mine is dry brushing before hopping in the shower and a nice soft towel waiting when I get out. I like to keep things minimal when it comes to bathing, not too many elements in the mix, my senses are already enjoying the feel and sounds of water, I don’t like to over complicate it. A winters soak in the bath with salts, a cold shower after a salty summer swim."
"Bathing has always been a soft moment to melt into myself. Being pregnant I’ve really leaned into a warm bath with magnesium salts to relax and feel weightless. It has helped heal my body and allow me to take a moment to practice breath work."
"I feel most myself when bathing outdoors in nature, an ocean dip or a bath in the backyard does it for me, it feels restorative and meant to be."

"Spending time in Japan really enhanced my love of bathing rituals. This is an ultimate bathing experience of everyone immersed in the same ritual. The natural body of water and an unspoken power between the women feels very healing. Cleansing the body both mentally and spiritually—I cannot wait for all the moments to come where I can teach and share bathing rituals with my daughter."
